The New Bridgewater Bridge is a $786 million investment in strengthening Tasmania’s National Highway. It will connect local communities and fix the missing link between the Brooker Highway and Midland Highway. The project area spans three local municipalities, a marine reserve and multiple heritage sites. In this session the New Bridgewater Bridge Project Director Ben Moloney will provide insights into how the project took an innovative and adaptive approach to the Major Projects Planning Approval Assessment phase by using an untested public planning approval assessment process to minimise delays.

This was done in parallel with a commercial-in-confidence procurement process to determine the final bridge design to meet transport and freight network management benchmarks as well as public safety and marine transport outcomes. The project is complex and involves ongoing direct consultation with all levels of government and a wide range of business and community stakeholders. It was awarded the 2022 AIPM Government Project and Tasmanian Project of the Year.
