Using Ergonomics and Human Engineering for Better Performance Solutions
It is essential for project managers navigating the complex design and compliance challenges of commercial construction to have a strong understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC) Performance Solutions and their applicability to their project.
The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) invites you to join the AIPM Thought Leadership Community of Practice for an in-person seminar presented by occupational safety and human factors experts Dr Lisa James and Dr Pujitha Silva from Dohrmann Consulting.
This session explores how ergonomics and human engineering principles can support smarter, safer, and more efficient Performance Solutions across project environments, in residential, commercial and high-rise construction.
The seminar draws on the science of human movement, behaviour, and design usability to demonstrate how project managers can develop solutions that are not only compliant but truly fit for the people who use and maintain the workspace.
To register for an AIPM event, you’ll need to login to your AIPM account. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create an account with AIPM before you register.

Speakers
Dr Lisa James
Ergonomics Consultant - Dohrmann Consulting
Dr Lisa James is an experienced Ergonomics Consultant with a PhD in Biomechanics and a background in Human Movement. She has a strong foundation in how people move and interact with their environment, developed through clinical work as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and research into factors contributing to fall risk. Lisa now applies this expertise to building and workplace design, helping employers, design professionals and project teams create safer, more functional spaces.
Lisa provides evidence-based input into NCC Performance Solutions for stairways, ramps, and access paths. She also conducts detailed investigations and provides expert opinion on slip, trip, and misstep incidents, often involving non-compliant stairs, walkways, and access features, helping identify risks and improve safety outcomes.
Dr Pujitha (Puji) Silva
Ergonomics Consultant - Dohrmann Consulting
Dr Pujitha (Puji) Silva is a qualified Mechanical and Medical Engineer with extensive expertise in human biomechanics, ergonomics, biomaterials, and biomedical device development. He specialises in identifying risks and applying human-centred design principles to reduce injury and improve safety.
As an experienced incident investigator and Ergonomics Consultant, Puji has assessed numerous workplace incidents—particularly those involving manual handling, slips, trips, and falls. Puji applies this knowledge to assess and improve building elements such as stairs, ramps, and walkways—particularly where they fall outside the Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions of the NCC.
Driven by a passion for creating safer environments, Puji works across industries to support better outcomes for human movement and wellbeing through practical, evidence-based ergonomics.
